Case Study - Sports club
Portstewart FC
Home of the Seahawks - senior, women's and academy football on the North Coast, with news, the match centre and fixtures all in one place.
The brief
What We Were Asked to Do
Built and kept running by people close to the club, not commissioned by it. Match reports and photos had only ever lived on Facebook, and an earlier free WordPress.com site wasn't easy to find or practical to maintain properly. We helped build the club's first proper website in over a decade, and have kept it updated for fans ever since.
Research & discovery
What We Looked Into First
- The original site grew out of something simple: weekly match reports and photos that had previously only been posted to Facebook, where they were hard for fans to find again afterwards.
- An existing free WordPress.com site covered the basics but wasn't easy to find online or practical to maintain long-term - the real gap was a proper, findable home for the club.
- The original domain name had to be bought through a domain auction, since it was already registered to an unrelated site at the time.
- That site became the club's main website for several years, until the club changed hands under new ownership. It was offered to the new owners, who said they'd be taking the website in a different direction once new funding came through.
- That rebuild never materialised. With the club's own site left as a bare, static page without much useful information for fans, players or parents, the original site was revived and brought back up to date instead.
- Rebuilt using the same approach already proven on Limavady United FC's site - real season data modelled as structured data, so fixtures, results and the league table update from real sources rather than manual page edits.
- Kept continuously updated since, independent of the club itself, for the fans and people of Portstewart.
- Real sponsor logos and a Google Analytics integration added as the club's own needs became clear, rather than guessed upfront.
What we recommended
Design & Visual Identity
Colours pulled directly from the club crest - a confident sky blue against deep navy - so the site reads unmistakably as Portstewart FC, not a generic sports template.
#27A9E1primary brand blue, from the crest#071B34primary dark/header#1878B8secondary accent#EEF6FAlight section backgroundTypography
Clean system sans-serif, prioritising fast-scanning fixture and result data.
Logo & identity
Official club crest used throughout - header, favicon and social image - matching the approach taken for sister club sites.

Automated testing can't catch everything, and it did flag a few real items here - shown openly rather than only reporting the headline score:
- One colour-contrast pairing flagged for review on a secondary element.
