Case Study - Tourism & visitor guide
Ballycastle Info
A local, honest visitor guide to Ballycastle, Rathlin Island and the North Antrim coast, covering the Glens, Fair Head and where to stay.
The brief
What We Were Asked to Do
Modernise a visitor-information site for Ballycastle, Rathlin Island and the North Antrim coast - stripping out leftover demo content and rebuilding the real content in an honest, locally-grounded voice.
Research & discovery
What We Looked Into First
- A full content audit removed Lorem-ipsum demo posts and placeholder pages that had been sitting live on the old site.
- Seven identically-titled 'accommodation' posts - each actually a different lodging type - consolidated into one genuinely useful 'Where to Stay' page.
- A content-gap and keyword analysis pass grounded new and rewritten pages in real search demand rather than guesswork.
What we recommended
Design & Visual Identity
Colours drawn directly from the site's own logo rather than invented separately - the dark navy outline, the water, the hills and the lighthouse all became named, accessibility-checked tokens.

Editorial serif/sans pairing suited to long-form visitor guides.
Logo & identity
Existing logo retained; palette extracted from it and documented with contrast ratios for every pairing, including which tones fail text contrast and must stay decorative-only.

Performance & Accessibility
Real Google Lighthouse audit (mobile), run 10 October 2026.
Accessibility: 21 of 22 automated checks passed
Automated testing can't catch everything, and it did flag a few real items here - shown openly rather than only reporting the headline score:
- One colour-contrast pairing flagged for review on a secondary element.
